(July 1, 2024 – Tamuning, Guam) At the recent Guam Economic Development Authority (GEDA) board meeting, Chairman David John addressed important matters concerning the agency’s commitment to transparency and support for sustainable development initiatives.
During the meeting, Chairman John acknowledged that at the previous board meeting, certain motions may not have followed the open government process as intended. Restating the agency’s dedication to transparency and open governance, the Chairman emphasized that adherence to proper procedures is crucial in upholding the principles of good governance.
The board reaffirmed its strong support for solar energy initiatives and expressed a commitment to supporting the use of CHamoru Land Trust (CLT) leases to enhance infrastructure for housing and economic development. The agency stands ready to provide assistance and expertise to facilitate these initiatives.
However, Chairman John made it clear that the agency does not support the conversion of the municipal golf course, designed to foster junior golf development and support Guam’s tourism infrastructure, into a solar farm. Instead, the board advocates for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model similar to the successful one established for the Guam National Tennis Center. The agency played a key role in the development of the tennis center and believes that a similar approach could benefit both junior golfers and retirees in our community.
As GEDA remains committed to fostering sustainable and inclusive growth on our island, Chairman John affirmed the agency’s readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to pursue initiatives that benefit the community as a whole.
