DoD Pledges Support for Strategic Infrastructure, Healthcare, Innovation and Growth for Guam

Hagåtña, Guam – Senior Defense Official for Guam, Under Secretary of the Navy, Erik Raven, has issued a letter to Governor Lou Leon Guerrero strengthening the partnership between the Department of Defense and the island of Guam.  The Under Secretary noted three areas of focus to ensure the continued growth and resilience of Guam:

1. Strategic Infrastructure: Efforts will be directed towards the modernization of infrastructure, including efficient transportation of goods and services, reliable access and security for water, power, and sewage systems, and the enhancement of telecommunications and cybersecurity infrastructure. Additionally, improving housing accessibility and affordability, safety, connectivity, and resilience are critical to enhancing the daily lives and strategic operations on Guam.

2. Healthcare: Recognizing the importance of a robust healthcare system, investments will be made to ensure the provision of quality healthcare for all Guam citizens, military and civilian personnel, veterans, and their families. A modern and resilient healthcare system is essential for community well-being and military readiness.

3. Innovation and Economic Growth: Fostering a culture of innovation and economic development will improve the quality of life, support national defense objectives, and create economic opportunities and career pathways for the hardworking citizens of Guam.

The Senior Defense Official expressed gratitude for the collaborative spirit and commitment of all parties involved. “Assuring the defense of our homeland and building and strengthening our military capabilities and associated infrastructure on Guam requires our continued collaboration. Together, we can address the concerns of the people of Guam and explore new pathways to enhance housing, healthcare, and economic opportunities,” Raven stated.
